Healthy Halloween Treats

This year as with every other event or holiday is different than normal. With the pandemic still not under control many birthdays, holidays and other celebrations have to be altered, changed or cancelled. In order to keep spirits up and still have fun in a safe way here is my guide to a “different” way of celebrating Halloween in a safe fun and healthy way with Healthy Halloween treats.

Jump To Recipe

Halloween is traditionally known for the fun costumes, creepy décor and lots of candy. In many states Halloween has been cancelled and many children will not be able to celebrate. I personally love Halloween and dressing up, decorating and carving a pumpkin. Ever since I was a kid it was months of planning what to dress up as, making/buying the costume and then trick-o-treating. Oh and not to forget how much fun it was to pour out that huge bag of candy and compare with your siblings and friends what you got and make trades. Then that huge bag of candy was stashed in the house just waiting to be eaten.

Well a lot has changed since then, of course I would not eat most of those candies now, and especially not let my daughter eat them either. Instead I have changed my ways and still make Halloween fun in different ways. Now some of you may think “what a mean mom” to deprive my child of Halloween fun, however it is not at all like that. We do Halloween differently, and this year it fits right into a safe covid friendly way.

So how do we still keep the spirit of Halloween, make it fun, and stay healthy and safe? Well here are my tips and a special recipe.

Start with Decorations

To start Halloween decor is the way to start. Look for skeletons, cobwebs, spiders, anything that shouts Halloween. You don’t have to spend a lot, dollar stores have lots of cute things as well as Michaels and Target which all have sales. As well you can make a lot of things DIY, Pinterest is a great resource for ideas and instructions. Make it a fun activity with your kids and get them involved. Make paper chains in halloween colors, paper spiders, and giant felt jack-o-lanterns. The best part is after halloween you can keep these decorations for next year and add more each time.

Costumes

Although there may not be trick-o-treating this year you can still dress up at home or do a zoom halloween dress up party, Kids love dressing up so let them. Make the costumes with what you have at home or buy them but dressing up is part of the fun and making this day/week different, so why not.

Healthy Treats

Now for the part I love most, the Healthy Halloween Treats. To start there are many companies out there that make healthier treats. To name some Smashmallow makes marshmallows, rice crispy squares and gummies with super clean ingredients. There is also Little Secrets chocolate which are like kit kat and twix but with clean ingredients and so delicious. For savory snacks there is Lesser Evil which makes popcorn as some of you may know with coconut oil. However they also make grain free cookies, and veggie sticks all with clean, grain free and healthy fats.

Aside from what you can buy there is so much you can make, easily and healthy. Pinterest has tons of ideas that are fast and easy. The point is to make halloween themed food all day so it’s fun and different.

Vegan Mummy Dogs

Today I will share my fun vegan Mummy dogs that you can make easily and quickly for the whole family to enjoy. The recipe uses my everything dough which I use literally for everything i need a dough for, from cinnamon buns, to Za’atar bread to pizza. This dough is the best for everything and it’s vegan and grain free. I usually have a batch in the fridge since I use it so much. Because it’s vegan it can last for upto a week no problem, so I always have some on hand to make what I need.

The other ingredient I used were vegan sausages. I made them with No Evil sausages as I like how their ingredients are super clean, however you can make them with regular hot dog as well. If using regular hot dog I prefer organic Applegate as they are the cleanest ones I have found that taste great and are Whole30 approved.

Hope you enjoy these healthy Halloween treats and they make your Halloween fun and festive. Happy Cooking! Be sure to check out more recipes on my blog:
